My niece is employed as a recruiter and I happened to come across a post she had shared regarding Robert Half Technology’s State of Tech Hiring in Canada. I’ve always appreciated their survey data for hiring trends and in demand skill sets. What was interesting this year is just how much the cloud skill set dominated the in demand needs as well as in demand training.
If you are too nervous to follow the link I placed above (I can’t blame you), here is a summary of the survey results.

I am really encouraged by these results as I’m glad to see cyber security being prioritized as a business concern and necessary skill set (see bias note below). It is also nice to see security being combined with cloud as more organizations continue to expand their cloud strategies.
One of the main issues I see with this list is the shortage of skilled cyber security and cloud computing professionals, especially for small and medium sized companies that struggle to compete with the large enterprise compensation packages. The report lists 89% of organizations finding it challenging to find IT talent in their area. As a result, organizations are trying to overcome the skill set shortage by training internal resources in these areas as demonstrated by the following results.
Now there’s obviously a self serving component to my blog post and I’m aware of my bias. That said, I think all of us here at Keep Secure are excited to be working in such a challenging and dynamic area that continues to grow.
